Description
Help plant trees and shrubs to enhance habitat at Steigerwald Lake National Wildlife Refuge in partnership with the Lower Columbia Estuary Partnership and US Fish and Wildlife Service. Learn more about this local wildlife refuge and earn 4 CBL hours.
Tuesday, March 11th, 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM *** 9 AM to 1 PM if carpooling.
Pre-registration is encouraged.

A free carpool will be available for up to 4 students from PSU at the Indigenous Nations Studies building. (first come first serve). Email sarah_williamsbrown@fws.gov if interested.

All ages and abilities are welcome. No prior experience is necessary. Please let us know if you need accommodations to participate due to language, disability, or other additional needs.Families welcome to join.
Accessibility: The planting site is a 20 - 25 minute walk from parking on a gravel trail. Expect uneven and muddy terrain.
We'll provide: Planting gloves, shovels, snacks and warm beverages.
What to wear: Long sleeves, pants, sturdy sneakers or boots. Dress for the weather: extra layers are helpful for the wind.
What you should bring: Water bottle, sun/raingear.
Directions: A reminder email with directions and parking info will be sent 3 days before the event.

Schedule: 9:30-12:30
**8:45 - 9:00 AM - Carpool meets at PSU, in front of the Indigenous Nations Studies building 1633 SW Park Ave, Portland
9:30 AM - Arrive at the Steigerwald Lake National Wildlife Refuge
9:40 AM - Introductions, project orientation, and goals
10:00 AM -Hike to the planting area
10:20 AM - Planting native trees and shrubs (taking personal breaks when needed)
12:00 PM - Wrap up and hike back to the parking area
12:30 PM - End of event ** Carpool back to Portland
1:00 PM - Arrive in Portland
